Mainland job seekers have been trending towards online job portals in search of job opportunities.  However, increased clicks do not necessarily translate into profitability for these portals, many of which current put a great deal of effort towards branding, expanding into regional markets, and finding new commercial models to help them grow.

Like many expanding Chinese businesses, hotel chains have often moved towards rapid expansion at the expense of management optimization and internal controls.  However, Jinjiang Inn Company Ltd is one hotel chain that plans to differentiate itself from its competitors through sufficient branding and a three-year plan for expansion.  Founded in 1997, Shanghai Jinjiang International Hotel Management Co Ltd (SJJIH) was successfully listed in Hong Kong in December, 2006.

China’s retail market is characterized by discounts as well as intense competition between domestic and foreign brands. Brands come and go, and so do some retailers. Even Wal-Mart, the US-based retail giant that has spent over a decade in China, can only obtain a small fraction of the overall of the market. RetailCo Inc is a leading branded sports retailer in Mainland China. Its CEO Garrick Wang talks to Amy Cheung of The China Perspective about the barriers to retailing and franchising in China as well as how his company is going to expand in this rapidly-changing market.

Hong Kong-listed recruitment advertising group, Recruit Holdings Ltd, is going to cooperate with Netease, one of the three most popular portals in China, to launch the first job-seeking portal,1010job.com in October. The new portal is considered to be well positioned to transform the existing recruitment advertising market in China.

Cumulative foreign investments as of August 2006 are down by 2.11 percent year-on-year to 37.192 billion US dollars, and fewer by 7.63 percent in terms of number of foreign-invested establishments. Monthly investments are on the decline for four consecutive months. August investments at 4.486 billion US dollars are lower by 8.49 percent compared to same month last year.  What do the numbers imply?

Road King Infrastructure, a toll operator, said it has 1.2 billion yuan (150 million US dollars) worth of options to acquire stakes in development projects totaling up to seven million square meters of gross floor area from its partner, Sunco China, a property developer in the Mainland, The Standard reported.
