There were around 300,000 people possessing at least ¥10 million in net assets on the mainland as at the end of 2008, a joint report by China Merchants Bank and Bain & Company shows. The size represented 29% of the nation's ¥30 trillion in gross domestic product. Southern China's Guangdong province, the nation's top provincial economy, was home to some 46,000 such well-off people, followed by Shanghai, Beijing and Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. The super rich population is projected to grow 6% to 320,000 this year; their net assets will likely amount to ¥9 trillion.
