September 19 – China's annual retail sales are expected to reach ¥30.9 trillion by 2015 and overtake the US in 2016, according to Huang Hai, former assistant commerce minister. Retail sales in the country rose 18.4% to ¥15.46 trillion in 2010.
September 16 – Burger King Holdings Inc (NYSE: BKC), the world's second largest fast food chain, opened its 45th store in China in Shaanxi's provincial capital, Xian.
September 15 – The value of B2C transactions in China grew 14.7% quarter on quarter and 172.6% year on year to ¥54.26 billion in Q2 2011, according to Analysys International.
September 15 – Peak Sports Product Co (HKG: 1968), a Chinese sportswear retailer, said it has established over 7,000 stores across the nation.
September 15 – Ikea said its revenue from China totaled ¥4.9 billion and the number of people that visited its Chinese stores exceeded 31 million over the past financial year, both up 20% from the year before. Ikea plans to open 17 stores in the country in the next four years.
September 14 – Rainbow Department Store Co (SHE: 002419) said it plans to spend ¥478.81 million renting a 34,360m2 property in Shenzhen's Longgang district to operate a shopping complex.
September 14 – FamilyMart plans to open its first store in Zhejiang's provincial capital, Hangzhou, in Q3 2011 and in Sichuan's provincial capital, Chengdu, next year. The Japanese convenience store chain plans to open a total of 40 stores in those two cities next year, and operate 3,800 stores in mainland China by 2015. FamilyMart had 612 stores in mainland China as of June 2011, including 483 in Shanghai.
September 14 – China's online retail sales almost doubled to ¥513.1 billion from 2010 to 2011; the amount represented 3% of total retail sales, according to an Alibaba.com (HKG: 1688) report. Taobao.com, China's top C2C site, operated by Alibaba.com, expects the value of its transactions to exceed ¥1 trillion in 2010.
September 13 – Gucci's revenue from the Greater China region rose 35.6% year on year to €363 million in 1H 2011, making the country's share of its global revenues climb to 23%. This year Gucci plans to open 12 new outlets in mainland China, where it currently operates 44 outlets.
