China's top three telecommunications carriers have invested ¥96.1 billion ($1 = ¥6.83) in 3G infrastructure in the nine months through September, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said. The amount accounts for 67% of the target for the whole of the year.
China Mobile (NYSE: CHL, HKG: 0941), China Unicom (NYSE: CHU, SHA: 600050, HKG: 0762) and China Telecom (NYSE: CHA, HKG: 0728) were serving 1.04 billion telephone users by the end of September, of which 69% were mobile service subscribers.
The number of broadband users totaled 99.33 million.
Telecommunications revenue grew 3.1% year on year to ¥625.69 billion between January and September.
