Haikou is the capital and largest city in Hainan province, a tourist island off China's southern coast. With a population of over two million, the city's GDP was ¥59 billion ($9.4 billion) in 2010, double the value recorded five years earlier. Haikou's economy is bolstered by its tourism and agriculture sectors, with limited industrial production.
